Clarke Daniels Spoilers for the story to follow involving the assault ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Just as an additional personal anecdote, when I was in sixth grade, I had a friend (same age) who was experiencing a similar situation to the assault and manipulation in this book. One of her friends was non-consensually touching her and then telling her that it was just something friends did and that she was asking for it and that no one would believe her if she told anyways and that she liked it when it was happening and that she was just making a big deal about nothing. So personally for me, this is a really important book for students to read, especially if they are not taught about what gaslighting looks like.
