I love all the interesting answers I get to this question! I read the book when it first came out and it's fun to see it still being enjoyed!
Yes but the stone curses the people she loves and no one has been cursed at the end of the story. ML still has her daughter and her grandson around her. Plus, her age is not that impressive. She's in her 80s-90s. A lot of people live till that age. I think the stone is still in the sea. There is a tiny chapter where the author describes the stone still among the snails in the sea year after year.
