Thanks, I think I understand now, just so many red herrings!
I assume that the hotel guy called Richard (obviously, the boat stopped and started back)....while the boat was coming back THAT is when she retrieved the gun from her scarf drawer and shot him. I loved this book!
your comment makes me wonder if Carrie was the mastermind behind the entire plot? unlikely, but made me think on it.
I wondered the same, if Carrie was the mastermind. Afterall, the entire story is revealed to Lo from Carrie. No one else confirms any of the details of the story - and by the time Lo is safe again, the other players in the story are all dead (Anne and Richard). Made me wonder how elaborate a scheme this could have been... and how honest Carrie actually was. After all, she's portrayed as a professional criminal. She burgled or was involved in planning at the very least, of Lo's house and the man who was meant to stay in Cabin 10; she threw a weighted suitcase with a nearly-dead Anne overboard, she climbs over veranda partitions like an acrobat, she assaulted and knocked out Lo and held her prisoner in some secret boat cabin for days, she is a master of disguise and hiding (apparently) as she's remained undetected as Lo and as Carrie on this small ship... and even Lo stated that Carrie seemed exhilarated when Lo fought back and tried to cut Carrie with the tray shard. I wondered if perhaps Carrie told Lo exactly what she wanted to tell her... to throw her off the scent on a completely unbelievable story. Carrie knew Bulmer was cozy with the local police in Norway... even if Lo escaped, she wasn't going to be believed, and Carrie could be scot free with loads of money. Could she have seduced Bulmer and created this plot?
