Peter Thank you, Jim.
After the Uncosoled I also read "Never Let Me Go" and loved it too. So I think I will continue reading Ishiguro's novels (including Remains of the Day, When we were Orphans....).

Catherine B. Well, I read first A pale view from the hills - located in Japan ...30 years ago. I followed sometime in disorder this author whom I appreciate. I have started "The unconsoled" and I am most disturbed by it. I do not want to drop the book too easily and I I feel growing exasperationg with the building up in so many words - impeccable in style - to in the end ...a knoll ! Right now my frustration and my impatience are too much to bear. I am putting this book asideTHis is me and this book. My love for Ishiguro's writings is not lessened in any way. I want to tell you that The Remnants of the Day is not at all the same writing experience. go for it ! A good read. The film is very much close to the writing of Ishiguro. One thing can be said about Ishiguro is that he does not plow the same field over and over . There is something very innovative about his dynamic as a writer. You can love one book of his and loather another one. I am happy with that as a reader, in debt to writers.

To my mind Never Let Me Go is a seminal work; tackling a very serious topic. The Unconsoled, however, is a totally different "stream of consciousness" which not in the same league as other Ishiguro works.
