Thanks for your reply. I found it interesting the way you phrased the bit about Paris - "the Paris I knew from visits..." as I have often thought that our perceptions of a place, a city, a village, etc are often quite individual. I've read reviews where readers have critiqued an author's description of a particular location because the reader felt they were improperly representing the place in their writing. Other than the basics about a location, the rest is unique to our own particular perception and experiences. I've never been to the places you write about so your writing would be another building block in my own mind's eye of what the place would be like. I don't know that I'd be able to comfortably write about a geographical place if I hadn't been there to have a first-hand impression so I think it takes a particular talent to do so largely through research and make it very real for the reader. Well done.
