When Kamala Harris was elected, a lot of people were saying "we have our first Auntie in office!" because she has the cultural background where Auntie is used to convey respect and love to female elders. I thought that was sweet :) As others have said, a lot of cultures use this. I actually didn't know it was used in Indian culture; I have a lot of pacific islander friends and they use it all the time.
