well if your books did get turned into movies would you request a percentage of the film's profits and a royalty of the future merchandise?
Movie rights are a whole situation and the negotiations for anything involve my publisher, my agent, and the movie studio. I've actually had some rights sell, but it's the preliminary sale, and since they didn't complete the script within a certain amount of time, the movie rights just bounced back to me and my publisher. In that case there was just a lump sum that we were paid at the beginning, and we keep that, there's no discussion of profits or merchandise.
