For insight into how "that's a problem," perhaps read over the other 39 answers & many comments previously posted in answer to this question?
I did read the other comments and disagree that it’s a problem. You seem to have a really visceral reaction to the pandemic. I agree that the pandemic was frightening and sad, but there were many different experiences of it and some of them were positive- some people had a chance to “reset” and rethink their lives.
ok, you disagree...but yes, I certainly do have a visceral reaction to a million dead, which prevents me from seeing any silver linings in the pandemic. We are all capable & free to reset our lives at any time. However, my Q (& complaint) is how it interrupted the story...I was so absorbed & resented being pulled in that direction. Opinions on that varied, as you saw.
