I understand that eyewitness testimony isn't reliable. And it can become less reliable with time. Was there any evidence besides eyewitness testimony suggesting Val was the only one asked about her faith? Did they confirm that through the videos? Maybe they did, assuming the audio was clear enough. But if they didn't, I'm not convinced Val was who Craig heard. It's possible but not a reliable theory. I read on wiki that Craig went back to the scene and pointed in the direction of Val as where the voice came from. Also not reliable.
