Rebecca wasn't exactly an innocent person she tried to destroy Beatrice''s marriage to punish Maxim
I agree! Although I do feel that the book is more sympathetic to her by the end after the big reveal. Maxim's not off the hook though, and provided no one was hurt, good on whoever lit that match.
"The idea she wanted to be murdered is disgusting," But she did; remember her medical condition.
I think the comment was not contesting her in novel motives, but a critique of the choice as a writer to make that her motive.
