Rae But they did say the real danger came after the fever broke.
And we knew he was dead long before we found out how. Part of the momentum of the book was finding out whether Michael died of nefarious causes, suicide, or natural causes. It was a murder mystery without any actual murder. In the end, it is a very realistic portrait of the struggles, joys, and grief of a marriage.
