i absolutely agree. it waits until you are ready, and then falls into place.
I am frustrated. Fifty pages in and I don’t care about the main character. Beautifully written but it’s hard to keep turning pages when you are ambivalent about the characters. I’m still reading, hoping that there will eventually be an emotional connection with at least one character.
This is my second attempt at reading this. This time I will finish it. However, all the fragmentation--this poem, that letter, this except from a biography by yet another writer--all these diverse voices--made the progress of the plot excruciating. I skipped forward so many times I didn't remember what I was supposed to know or not at that point. What an exhausting read. I am still reading it so my view might become more positive but for now, I am finding reading it sort of excruciating. So sorry!I don't like the turgid and boring poems and the letters are so prolix I have to keep skipping since I can't bear to read every pseudo scientific detail about Ash's investigations of sear urchins. What an ordeal! I will never reread this.
