Nathaniel William Kent Krueger is very good. I like Cork O'Connor just fine, but in a state that has Louise Erdrich, I don't understand.

message 52: by Robyn (new)

Robyn Minnikin Yes do Canada!

message 53: by Mikayla (new)

Mikayla Koleff This is awesome! I appreciate this so much 💫

message 54: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Greenwald More from California: The View from Alameda Island, The Mars Room, Damnation Spring,

message 55: by Linde (new)

Linde Thanks for these great lists! Another suggestion: One per country and then step by step: Latin America, Africa, Middle East, Asia, Oceania, North America and Europe =D

message 56: by Kelly (new)

Kelly I can't, just no. Remarkably Bright Creatures? Ugh. At least it wasn't Twilight LOL. The Orchardist by Amanda Coplin for WA!

message 57: by Maryposa (new)

Maryposa Todd Robert Petersen is SO good. Glad to see he's getting more recognition.

Amy Stephanie wrote: "I wish there was a printable check list of all of the books"

Same! Or a way to add all to my Want to Read shelf. I'm afraid I won't be able to find this list later on.

message 62: by Isla (new)

Isla I really want to try this

**[My weekends are booked ]** The great alone definitely gives me a great vision on what Alaska would be like surviving in the dark cold winters!

Deanna Law wrote: "Amanda wrote: "So many social justice themes present in a majority of these recommendations"

What's your point?"

It's annoying and not all of us prefer to spend our precious little time for fiction with excessive virtue signaling.

message 65: by Stacey (new)

Stacey E "Tom Lake" is a solid Michigan pick. Also "Beach Read" and "A Million Junes" by Emily Henry. I once heard an interview with Emily Henry where she spoke about readers questioning this ocean-sized lake she was writing about in Michigan. YES people...it is for real. We actually have 5 of them...the Great Lakes! No salt, no sharks, stingrays or jellyfish, but still lovely sandy beaches! For Detroit area check out the Pulitzer Prize winner "Middlesex" by Jeffrey Eugenides.

message 66: by Ayş (new)

Ayş a world tour list please

message 67: by Phil (new)

Phil I'd love a non fiction version of this - travel, history, memoir etc.

message 68: by Foxy Vixen (new)

Foxy Vixen How nice. On our group SnagDragons, we have a much more extensive list

Love Eden Robinson, Richard Wagamese, and Katherena Vermette!

Another great book set in NWT: Having Faith in the Polar Girls Prison by Cathleen With

message 72: by Brooke (new)

Brooke Tenenbaum Could we get a different genres list for each state possibly? Like romance based in each state and etc.

message 73: by Blair (new)

Blair Love articles like this one.

message 74: by Christine (new)

Christine Stephanie wrote: "I wish there was a printable check list of all of the books"

if you google good girls book club they have a check list for the states.

message 75: by Katie (new)

Katie Cherry What a fun list!

message 76: by Tonia (new)

Tonia The story of Mayor Buddy Cianci for Rhode Island would be another recommendation. He did well by Providence, and had ties to the Mob. Am interesting life.
I’m looking forward to reading many of the books on this list!

message 77: by Carrol (new)

Carrol For Utah, I would definitely recommend Edward Abbey’s Desert Solitaire about Arches National Park and the surrounding area. Of course now it has changed almost beyond recognition, but exactly as Abbey predicted.

message 78: by Sophia (new)

Sophia I am disappointed in Louisiana. It sounds like a wonderful book but not a good representation of Louisiana’s culture.

message 79: by Kevin (new)

Kevin O'Donohue Michael Koryta's "So Cold the River" is set in and around French Lick, Indiana and the historic West Baden Springs Hotel. It captures the feel of that area of the state very well, and is a terrific story!

message 80: by Bridget (new)

Bridget This list is obviously for me as the last 4 books I have read are on this list. Tom Lake for Michigan is perfection!!

message 81: by Caroline (new)

Caroline I love this concept! Is there a way to make this a Goodreads Challenge?

message 82: by Isla (new)

Isla Can anyone recommend me an alternative to the Massachusetts book? I’m from the UK!

message 83: by MTD (new)

MTD A better choice for Massachusetts is North Woods by Daniel Mason, set in the Berkshires.

message 84: by Cari (new)

Cari Lori This is such a GOOD list.
I’ve been wanting to read like 8 of these books, but seeing one for every state just makes it more exciting!

message 85: by Cindy (new)

Cindy Andrea wrote: "Basically every other state has a proper novel and not just a summer pulp romp, but Massachusetts. I feel disappointed and surprised considering the state’s contributions to the literary world."

Completely agree!

message 86: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer For Oregon, I'd recommend Small Animals Caught in Traps by CB Bernard.

message 87: by Deb (new)

Deb Dusty wrote: "CANADA!

Cold Mountain"

Any one of Louise Penny’s Chief Inspector Gamash series!

message 88: by Dbs1975 (new)

Dbs1975 Agree with Andrea-so many better options for Massachusetts than another EH Nantucket romance.

message 89: by Jill (new)

Jill I would love to print the list and see my progress, or maybe a tracker feature on the site? Under the My Books tab?

message 90: by Jill (new)

Jill I'd add Idaho by Emily Ruskovich and / or Educated by Tara Westover.
Florida: anything by Carl Hiassen (older stuff is better).

message 91: by Evangeline (new)

Evangeline Great list (like I needed another list)! And all but 4 are available through my library! Even better!

message 92: by George (new)

George This list is cursed.

message 93: by Allyson (new)

Allyson Rice Literally an award-winning roadtrip novel through the southern states from Louisiana to the Georgia coast!
The Key to Circus-Mom Highway

message 95: by Sydney (new)

Sydney Kuehn Mar wrote: "Now make a world tour and put a few books from every continent 🙏✨"

How could you forget PEI! Anne of Green Gables and all it's sequels by Lucy Maude Montgomery!

And not that I have any more suggestions, but there's also Québec, Nova Scotia, and Nunavut...

<3

message 98: by Kathy (new)

Kathy I'm not from Wyoming but you have to include CJ Box , any one of his books featuring Joe Pickett, Game Warden.

I'm in Maine so Olive Kitteridge by Elizabeth Strout and her subsequent books would be my picks!

message 99: by Trike (new)

Trike If my TBR tips over and buries me, I blame Goodreads.

message 100: by Daniela (new)

Daniela González Velásquez Now make a world tour and put a few books from every continent 🙏✨
