And of course, this also represents me sneak-previewing GarbAugust, chiefly in the 'Would Not Read This On The Bus' section. I must say, that was not the first chapter I was expecting - I'm not sure how we get from where we begin, to cannibals! GarbAugust Bonus Features of Book: I'm thrilled that it is running a 2-star rating at GoodReads, from one single rating. Perfect credentials!

I'll finish it later today - it'll be a bit of a relief. The opening, in Scotland, was fun, and the general sense of adventure and story-telling is sound...but a book like this has become horrendously hard reading. I spotted it weeks ago at a Used bookstore, and picked it up for the GarbAugust reading event - and it fits that - but I didn't really consider what I was letting myself in for. Better trashy reads await!

1890s; Would Not Read On The Bus; Anything Goes Week. No cannibals, yet. I was just starting to think the cannibals, against all odds, were going to come to Scotland some damn way - but, I think we’ll be going to sea, soon. So far, this is more like The Fifth Form at St. Dominic’s - with a Quint or Ishmael character handy at the local pub, for good stories. But I think we sail soon…!

GarbAugust pick. Not normally something I would read, but bought a few weeks ago, specifically for GarbAugust. Likely to be flooded with Not Aged Well. I’m applying this to the following prompts: Anything Goes, 1890s, and Would Not Read It on the Bus. Later on, I will know if it covers any other prompts, which could affect my book choices later in the month. Will not start until around Aug. 1st. Louis L’Amour first.

Theresa (mysteries.and.mayhem) hahaha "would not read this on the bus" almost made me spit out my coffee! 😂 Really. There's nothing to see here ... carry on!

It's one of the Bingo Card spots for the GarbAugust reading event. Most people will likely be picking books with nudity on the cover. That is definitely something that makes me squirrelly, if I'm reading in public. Also not keen on publicly reading books with swastikas or Hitler on the cover, or particularly gory images. This book just looks like it's full of reprehensible 19th century stereotypes...which it probably is. I can't really explain to pissed off people on the bus the point of GarbAugust, not with a split lip.

Theresa (mysteries.and.mayhem) I see that! Your GarbAugust mentions made me look it up on YouTube to see what exactly is going on here. It looks ... amazing! I'm not a booktuber, more a bookstagrammer. But this looks like a lot of fun. Enjoy your GarbAugust reading! Just be careful who you read this book in front of, obviously! 🙃😅

Two Envelopes And A Phone I've picked a book for each day of the month...which means my GarbAugust will likely later be re-named GarbAutumn/GarbBottom, as I intend to read every book. If I do stretch this to September, I will likely read one trashy book, followed by something insanely high-brow, and so forth like that. Trash, Kafka, Trash, The Good Earth, Trash, The Alchemist, alternating like that. But we'll worry about that in September...
