Uh oh. Is Connie really this dumb? Especially since she's just successfully discussed the Salem witch events at her orals?

Too much time spent *telling* me Connie's sartorially challenged. But I still don't have a clear picture of her in my head.

'Ankles flopping loose in the breeze'? Good God, the child has no ankle bones!?

Hmm. Connie's willing to give up researching when it gets hard & she readily jumps to conclusions. Really?

I really want to like this book...especially since a good chunk of my own doctoral research was on Colonial America...

Monica Not sure what part you're referring to...when she puts the mandrake root on the shelf or the thoughts about her grandmother's house???

Lisette I'm flummoxed as to her lack of making the connection between the roots and herbs she sees, while acknowledging her grandmother's lack of cooking, to witchcraft. Or at least to healers. If she's that grounded in Colonial Americana and the Salem witch trials, she would be familiar with witchy accoutrements, at least via her readings.

Monica Aaahhh...ok...she is a bit dingy, no?

Lisette Yeah, dingy that she is. I seem to be developing a strange relationship with this book. While I read, I roll my eyes a lot (especially with the addition of Sam), but I keep reading! Argh!

Monica Funny. I did the same thing. Figured it out well in advance but just sighed and finished it. I was strangely content with the book. I think I just needed to read something that wasn't my usual type of book and this one kind of came my way via my friend TJ. It sounded interesting so I read it.
