So... this is a real thing:

http://stopthegrbullies.com/

The people who run this so-called anti bullying site are hypocrites, liars, slanderers and the very thing they claim to be fighting against. Shaming, defaming and bullying reviewers? Well done, you idiots.

Why, Wendy, of course! She pulls all of our strings.

Or ... Archer? He was constantly called a girl, so maybe?

THT, don't forget vain. Lazy and vain with good taste in food. Seriously, what was the point of directing people to your restaurant reviews?

Kat's humor clearly goes straight over her head. It would be comical if her post wasn't so malicious.

What's really odd (and disturbing) is how the screencaps provided as evidence of her claims actually disprove them. Very delusional.

All TWO of them. Yeah, I don't know, she's trying to make it seem like she's watching me because she KNOWS WHERE I'VE EATEN ... twice. It's just demented.

And I'm vain for posting lots of pictures of myself? Yeah, that one didn't make sense either. She gets all up in arms when people don't have real photos for avatars but apparently I put up TOO MANY of myself.

She's reaching, she really is.

Sabrina Oh, this is so horrible.

Given the list of "recommendations", it looks like Rachel Vincent is part of this group of disgruntled authors. I'm so sorry to have to acknowledge this. I loved some of her books (and hated others, but still).

Wendy, Lucy and Kat have all my support and I trust their reviews.
There are ill motived people here on GR, but most of the people are here not just to be snarky or to vent spite on books; they give credit when credit is due and point out flaws when that's necessary. I can't find fault in that. All the rest is nonsensical talk.

Sabrina, it's highly unlikely that Rachel Vincent had anything to do with this website. The most likely culprit is one particular self-published author who has a history of extreme anti-reviewer behavior. She also has a history of creating multiple accounts so that it looks like her posts have support from multiple sources, but it's really just her, having conversations with herself.

She's crazy, and she can slap any author's name up on her website to make it look like they're part of a crusade together. I'd caution strongly against thinking ill of any author just for being mentioned on this whackjob's website. If an author him/herself says something you find offensive, that's another matter.

Exactly. In fact, I'd assume that anyone she lists *isn't* down with her 'mission' unless they specifically specify otherwise.

punkasaur Um . . . okay.

Lol, I don't get the point of that site. What's the use of posting people's names and what they do? *facepalms* Why is the author spending so much time on this? Why is the author care? Why does she think it's cyber-bullying even if it isn't? Why is there no milk tea left?

WHY? WHAT? HOW?

Meh. *shrugs* Pretty soon, it'll die out, so I'm just going to ignore it. I'm sorry to the reviewers who were attacked by the blog--you didn't deserve it. I'll just be sending you virtual chocolate a thousand miles away ;) Cheers, and hope everything's okay with ya'll!

I second the 'love' and 'sweetheart' part (only non-condescendingly) but I've never heard 'petal' used at all.

message 184: by Angela (new)

Angela It's very common in North-East England but I've never really heard it anywhere else. It's also used by mainly older generations as an affectionate term, my nana calls me it all the time!

And its downright scary to track a person's personal life..I HATE THEM!

Vidya-BooksAreMagic "I’ve never liked GR. It’s had a vicious, harsh vibe ever since I joined. I canceled my account with them a while ago. Good to see a site like this exposing them. Maybe it will whip them into shape, I don’t know. I do know that I’m not interested in having anything to do with them."

Jessica-Robyn And yet, despite all the effort that must have gone into those posts the website accomplishes absolutely, positively nothing. Life goes on! Reviewers keep reviewing, readers keep reading, commenters keep commenting. In the end bitches can't stop the motion of the ocean.

I'm not saying she does, but even if she did, what's wrong with working at Home Depot. I worked there for years, and while it wasn't some sort of magical paradise, it paid the rent like any other job. I might be a touch sensitive on this issues, but one of the women I worked with (who had some sort of horticulture degree) was working in the garden department and had a lady approach her, and say “I have a question, but I doubt you can answer it since you make minimum wage.” This was not an isolated incident, and while not everyone working at a store like Home Depot has extensive knowledge, or a degree, you’d be surprised the people you can find working there. Sorry rant over, and this was directed at the site who made it sound like a bad thing, not anyone here.

Sorry your being put through this, but I'm glad to see you've been able to retain your sense of humor throughout the ordeal. I've been mightily impressed by your collective wit, and class.

It's all speculation at the moment, unfortunately. It looks like the work of certain authors who are known drama llamas, but then again, it could just be their supporters...

message 194: by [deleted user] (new)

Actually, I'm pretty sure we have come to the assumption it is one self-published author in particular that is behind the site. At least I have.

message 195: by Ava (new)

Ava If you report them, add that they're illegally putting up personal information, pictures, and more without said victim's consent. Also, cyber-bullying. Since that is what they're doing.

Works like a charm.

Assumption sadly isn't hard evidence... it's like, it's her but it might not be her. And we'll end up looking foolish if this turns out to be a red herring where Vanity is using her supporters as her own personal army or some crap like that. x_x

You're right. I really wish there was a way to trace the IP of the site. But I only think that the hosting site can do that, correct (my tech knowledge is limited). The syntax and style just scream her or one very desperate person. I really don't think there are multiple people posting, something just seems too stilted and fake about the way the comments have been posted. I could be wrong though, but better safe than sorry.

message 198: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Christina wrote: "This person is gainfully employed, what a beeyotch!" seems to be the tone. I don't get it. "

It does seem that way. Which is laughable because she then criticizes both Kat and THT for not being employed. I'm not sure why she thinks that or if it's even true (I don't remember what evidence, if any, she had and I refuse to give her site more traffic), but why on earth does it matter?

message 199: by Jim (new)

Jim Kara wrote: "Actually, I'm pretty sure we have come to the assumption it is one self-published author in particular that is behind the site. At least I have."

Kara, I agree that a lot of arrows seem to point in that direction. The other authors may have been included without their knowledge, as the anti-bullying sites seem to have been (based on their Twitter posts quoted earlier in this thread).

Vanessa wrote: "Assumption sadly isn't hard evidence... it's like, it's her but it might not be her. And we'll end up looking foolish if this turns out to be a red herring where Vanity is using her supporters as her own personal army or some crap like that. x_x "

Very true, Vanessa. I have found some interesting timeline correlations on a different site. They are not hard evidence either, but what they ARE is a massive writing sample - multiple 'reviews' by (ostensibly) the same person. All of them look suspiciously familiar in style. Not sure if I should post the links here, but open to suggestion. I could PM instead...

YAL, I agree with all of these points. Sadly, I don't have the tech knowledge to trace the IP. But I agree completely with the comments about writing style.

I just wanted to point out that Rachel Vincent has nothing to do with that site or her name being on it. She actually favorited this tweet:

@smexybooks
authors need to ask to be removed RT @jane_l: @racblog Totally disturbing. I'm not going to review any author on their "recommended list"

Here's hoping she gets herself removed so nobody else thinks she's in league with those nutjobs.
