Guys, I cannot believe this, but I'm so angry right now. Occasionally, I write harsh reviews and I know it may be hard for an author to read it. But I have NEVER attacked an author in my reviews. Despite popular opinion I do not have a vendeta against anyone. But today I lost a lot of respect for the YA community when I recieved an email about an author calling me a "stupid cow" or a "toe rag" and a "bitch."

Who is the author you are all talking about? I feel a bit clueless.

OMG! I assume (since I haven't read every comment) that the author who wrote the email is
? I am so so sorry you had this happen to you, Stephanie. You are a great reviewer but even the worse ones don't deserve shit like this. She will get hers because Karma is a bitch. *Lethal sends hugs & lots of chocolate*As for Leigh Fallon? *Lethal takes of pacifist hat* Fuck you & your big ass nose & your shitty little YA book. Cry about that, you vindictive bitch.
*Lethal puts pacifist hat back on*
ETA: And if it turns out that Leigh didn't send that message, I apologize...but she still has a big ass nose.
Thought it might be worth mentioning that quite a few authors have had their email accounts hacked recently and had their contact lists swamped with nonsense. I sincerely hope that is what's happened here.
Lou Eli wrote: "Who is the author you are all talking about? I feel a bit clueless."...same here. Is this who Cory and Kira were talking about in the review of Tempest?
I feel bad because the authors do this to people who are honestly stating their thoughts on the matter. Reviews were created to let people (and the author) know what you liked and what you didn't. Who knows? Maybe what you didn't like, other people do. That doesn't make a review "bad", it just makes it informative.Steph,
I am very mad at your behalf. What's happening to authors these days.....?

So um...maybe you should keep the insults about her appearance out of this, at least until we have more information?
Laura the Highland Hussy wrote: "And did anyone find out if this is really Leigh, or just a troll? "
I don't know yet. I've emailed her, but I'm waiting on a reply.

If it IS her, my statement still stands. Stephanie has gotten crap from too many people on GR & she's too good of a person to have to deal with that crap.
The only person who I can think who could be Vanity is a famous Harry Potter Fanficer. :/ You should know who I mean.. Draco. =P

I know. I shouldn't say anything. But it doesn't help that she's spreading lies and making us out to be the bad guys.
Then she went after me where it hurts.
So sorry you are going through this Stephanie. :( I second what Katie(babs) said. Go to the publisher and Leigh's agent if this in fact the author saying these things.

would you mind PMing me also, I don't remember her name (I swear she keeps popping up with drama everywhere, though)

Oh shoot, I knew that *duh moment, my apologies*
thank you
yeah, I swear I constantly see some reference to her name (Vanity, etc) in my timeline...drama, sigh, because we need more of it, right?
Laura the Highland Hussy wrote: "drama, sigh, because we need more of it, right?"It would be much more productive if these "authors" put the same drama in their (sadly/severely lacking) plots.
Thank you for the links.. still wowing about it. I don't understand the minds of some authors and why they will destroy their own rep.
I guess like Stephanie I just want to feel like I shouldn't have to fear retaliation for vocalising my opinion.
I have only been trolled once or twice, and it was never to this extent, but you know what? both times were by trollthors (love that term!)
Cillian wrote: "Why are we assuming those harsh words were for Stephanie? That's bothering me right now. Why for Stephanie?
Cait's review was as harsh, this woman (Leigh) doesn't give any names.
What am I missing?"
Steph's review was the first review on Amazon, referred to in the email.
God am I happy I decided not to write mucho reviews this year. You ladies-& gents-have a higher tolerance for BS than I ever could. *Lethal applauds* Hearing bits & pieces about this Vanity chick reminds me why I rarely engage in internet drama. In RL, you punch a bitch & that's the end. Maybe you go to jail but she won't screw with you anymore. Online, this crap goes on like The NeverEnding Story.
Cillian wrote: "We don't say its name here, shhh...Beware of it whose name shall not be spoken..."
Yessssss... that precioussss!
After having read through this entire thread, plus the review Stephanie originally did, I am frankly appalled at the lows to which some people stoop. Anyone and everyone who is a GR member/reader/reviewer should have the right to openly and honestly state their opinion about a particular book. Any book. Any time. Stooping to personal attacks is really low. Any author, whether they were published by one of the big six, an indie binding or one of the vanity presses, would do well to understand that any review, positive or negative, simply means that someone took the time to read their book and write up his/her opinion. Take each review and learn from it. Attacking a reviewer for leaving a not so flattering review is IMHO like cutting off your nose to spite your face. Or shooting yourself in the foot. And that's just not very smart.
Stephanie, I'm glad to see that you have so much support. I'd love to see if the email you received actually did originate with the author in question.
Palice wrote: "What, what? I got no message - what's going on?"I didn't get a message either. I'm confused.
What???? I can't believe the email was real. I was hoping it was fake. Why would anyone ever do that? I am so sorry Stephanie :(
Stephanie wrote: "Umm...guys. The email was real. I can't even process this right now."Neither can I. I'm just so incredibly full of rage.
*hugs*
My god, my curiosity is killing me. The message was that the email was real? Someone please tell me!!
WTF? What is wrong with the authors nowadays. Just because we read their shitty ass books doesn't mean they have any control on us. If we liked it, we did and if we didn't thats because somebody who wrote this book needs to die. SHE HAS NO FREAKING RIGHT to tell you or anybody that. We simply don't just rate a book 1 star because we feel like it. We do it because we have some problem with it. That author should understand instead of telling that you are a bitch, etc. And seriously, don't get upset because of this lame ass author. We all are with you :)
Hey! I want the message too!
How can she say all that she appreciates all reviews after what she said in the initial email? Argh I'm so angry right now.
I don't know if I should copy and paste it. But she sent me an email apologizing. She said I hurt her feelings in my review. And for that I am sorry, but this was too much.Edit: The email is above. I'm not really worried about people reading it. I think they should know.
Katie(babs) wrote: "How does someone send an email to a person by mistake? I am so confused."I've sent text messages to the wrong person by accident. It happens.
Laura the Highland Hussy wrote: "Adam 'Archer' wrote: "Did everyone just get a message from Stephanie?"I didn't, what's up?"
It's in one of Adams messages on this thread.

wow, that needs to be outed.
I am really upset and angry at this now. I feel incredibly disappointed in Leigh Fallon. I am so sorry Stephanie that you have had this happen.
Reut (reutreads) wrote: "Can I ask what Rachel Hawkins did to put her book on so many "will-never-read" shelves?"She was involved with yesterday's twitter stupidity surrounding Dan Krokos.
What. The. Fuck. So...the big nosed bitch DID send the email? But it's okay because she didn't mean to send the email to Stephanie? Um...okay. It's totally okay to want to vent to other people. If Fallon sent an email saying "I hate that she wrote the review, the [expletive, expletive]" that's okay. But she tried to fuck Stephanie over too. Not just "I can't believe that ho said this!" but "I can't believe that ho said this so now I'm gonna to fuck her over & ask my friends to fuck her over too!" THAT is not cool.
