Why waste time. Gonna DNF this.

Yes, I've made a blunder again going for popular titles. For anyone with a keen mind, there's nothing in this book so far that one wouldn't already have learned by living, or working, or dealing with people. Maybe it's 'pop' for a reason. A complete bore.

Finally, I see Stauss (or is it 'Straws'? Hehe)

This is definitely my kind of book. Has a sharp dialectical approach to what it is to despair, dileneating it, classifying it, diagnosing it, categorically, as would a philosophical treatise.

The research is astounding, very very impressive. There are lots of characters and a great deal about Oppie's flirtations with left wing politics (all good fodder, I'm sure, for what's to come). But the best parts are still the ones that talk about what Oppie was like, how intensely he approached problems, his open mindedness and ability to synthesise disparate ideas and fields, and ofc, his character.

Lovely writing. And Oppenheimer was mad! An eccentric genius, a polymath to be sure, filled with contradictions and deep character flaws that underscore the workings of a human heart (and stupendous intellectual and nervous energy). But what a guy indeed. Human, all too human.

Long long way to go. Hope i finish it before the movie

This is similar to a lot of 'writing' books, yet somehow still refreshing.

I can go to sleep reading this. And it's the middle of the day.

Got the audiobook cuz I'm getting lazy now. Doesn't really count as 'reading' imo. But heck, let it be. I'm guilty.

Halfway into the book, I can safely say that of all that I've read, I understand only about 30% of it, which is to say I don't get it at all. Still, I'll keep reading.

Reading the introduction and the foreword alone, I'm excited with nervous fear, my mind is ready to explode, my fingers jitter, my teeth set on edge. O, Nietzsche, you dynamite! How have I missed you! Tell me more of the artistic metaphysics, and vanquish all the inimical thoughts that I've gathered over the years, like the navel gathers lint; empty me of present day morality; fill to the brim the Dionysian spirit!
