So far I have been COMPLETELY unable to put this down.

A little more than halfway and this is starting to get quite tedious. Not a great deal has actually happened, and every "twist" so far has felt extremely predictable.

I'm probably never going to read Lemaitre's first in the series, "Irène," because a) the protagonist's spouse being kidnapped and murdered is not at all my cup of tea and b) "Alex" works just fine as a stand-alone. And so far, "Alex" is a dark, gritty, well-written, nasty little piece of crime fiction. Already two plot twists have taken me completely by surprise, and the prose is stunning.

I'm getting to that point in the story where I'm really upset because it's almost over, and I don't want it to end! It's just so goooooood!
