Oh my god I've been reading this book for about a year and I'm half way done. It is so incredibly boring. It makes me not want to be a hillbilly OR a successful memoirist/venture capitalist, if it means being like this. Maybe this seemed like a great book right after Trump won and everyone was asking "What does it all mean?" - kind of like how Sam Harris's "End of Faith" seemed good after 9/11.

Incredible, this guy is an amazing journalist, artist, and storyteller.

The phone started ringing, quietly, as if to itself.

"As one lab director (whose specialty was the calcium channels in neural axons) once said to me, 'In our lab we have a saying; if you work on one neuron, that's neuroscience. If you work on two neurons, that's psychology.'"

This belongs among other postmodern books like Pale Fire and Gravity's Rainbow where the author is a character in the story.

This book is awesome Despite the fact that it is at least 40% by volume a crazy person pouring out his real, legitimate mental illness on the page, and that it's the type of mental illness that is typically the worst by far - the kind where the person thinks they're talking to God. What makes it incredible is that Dick knows he's crazy. But he also wants to be right.
