I understood now why the left the story of Sinbad the Sailor in the original text. The abridged iirc removed. It was so dull to read through Vampa.

The part abt Mm. Morriel and his son, Maximilian, still makes me cry.

So far I am meh:

The book definitely made an annoying first impression to me. I like lyrical writing styles, but it's so hard to enjoy a book if the sentences hold a lot of pretentiousness.

About 70 or so pages in I'm starting to get use to the writing style, but I still find myself rolling myself at the excessive anaphora and the repeating things three times.

Also: I get it, Addie is not like the other girls

A bit slow beginning the first 100 pages left me with a huge question mark. I feel a bit lost with the lyricism of Woolf. A tough thing to overcome for those who is new of her work.

The story of Helen, whether she willingly went or she was kidnapped, is one of the 'I wonder what will be the outcome of this myth' I had when I began this book. But this is an interesting exchange:

“Maybe Aphrodite made her.”
“Maybe they’ll bring her back with them.”
We considered this.
“I think Agamemnon would attack anyway.”
“I think so too. They never even mention her anymore.”
