Raine sits up next to me and I lean against him a bit. He flinches, but instead of pulling away, he leans into me too.

He pulls me in and his lips press against mine. "I can show you the stars and everything they kiss beneath them."

At first, I hadn't been all that sure what his favorite color was, but it turned out that he'd been saying it this entire time, repeating it, over and over, every time he called my name.

There was something just so reassuring about books. They had beginnings and middles and ends, and if you didn't like a part, you could skip to the next chapter. If someone died, you could stop on the last page before, and they'd live on forever. Happy endings were definite, evils defeated, and the good lasted forever.
