Well, time to start the multi-year journey of reading this bad boy.

I haven’t the faintest idea what is happening in this council meeting and it keeps on going and going

Switching from the written word to the audiobook was a great choice for me. There are some really interesting ideas in here but the writing itself fails to engage me, though it tries by having many, many different voices and writing styles throughout. Certainly not much worth me highlighting. It’s interest to me sits when I think of it less a story and less philosophy, and more a thought piece in between the two

It’s very jarring because the story telling chapters are incredible and evocative but the chapters “from someone’s notebook” are tiring and just feel like regular writing without first person pronouns or articles. Then there’s the chapters which just feels like nonfiction writing, but there’s no citations, so I don’t know what I’m really supposed to do with those. Exposition without characters?

I’m enjoying it, but certainly feel it’s lacking in certain areas. Lot of repetition and little subtlety. The information in the interstitials are interesting but really feel like I’m being told something, not shown something.
