There are some portions that feel like they’re overly redundant, but don’t manage to convey the point they’re building towards (or maybe I just don’t get it). Thinking esp of Ch 5. Ch.s 6 & 7 are compelling, but I there are sociopolitical elements which I wish had been explored further/more explicitly. Likewise, though less so, with 8 & 9. Still enjoyable, but… hmm. Just chapter 10 left to go.

This bus commute is gonna be the best thing that’s ever happened to my reading journey

Anyways, I’m partway through Chapter 6 and enjoying it thus far. I’m definitely glad to be engaging via the audiobook, as some of the distinctions between different types of influencer accents in Chapter 4 would have been hard for me to make sense of in writing.

Solid so far! I’ve made my way through the intro and the first chapter. Aleksic does a great job narrating this, and I’m excited to keep listening!

I have just finished the section that the audiobook calls “Prose - A Burst of Light: Living With Cancer”. It is a single “chapter” that is more than three hours long, making it hard to pace oneself; my understanding is that it’s excerpts from a full book of the same name. It was incredible, and I will surely have to read the book on its own & in its fullness.

I re-started this as an audiobook a lil while back (I think about two weeks ago?). I paused it before “my mother’s mortar” and returned today. It’s due in 6 days, so let’s see if I can finish it in time.
I definitely want to read & mark my physical copy, and do so slowly, but given that this has sat on my “currently reading” for literally years, it seemed time to re-commit at least to a first pass.

A fun and fascinating read. CS Lewis’ manifesto on how to be a good person & good Christian— no doubt intertwined in his own mind— approached via reverse psychology, providing the reader an enemy to understand and resist. The audiobook is very good, and well narrated, but this almost certainly warrants a second pass in print with annotations. Excited to explore the rest.

(SPOILER)
Just finished chapter 4 and man, the Lou Sullivan quote (paraphrased) ‘you told me I could never live as a gay man, but now I am going to die like one’ has wrecked me.
