Xadan literally runs a wing why is he HERE, at RHIANNON'S SISTER'S home? He couldn't even meet them at the front lines? HOW did he even find her? Why do we learn he's here and then immediately cut away from the interesting scene it was supposed to set up? im so confused

Wait why are we moving so fast? I feel like we keep setting up scenes that don't get put on the page and then just jump to "an hour later"... it's giving 'my editor said this is due friday'

I feel like her bonding with two dragons is just OP, but i'm willing to excuse that because she cant even ride one. However Tairn being a mated pair is ridiculous and im sorry I hate the word mate

I knew it was coming because they had to make room for xadan hotman(tm) riorson but it hurts that this guy she's had a crush on for years who's a far more interesting character is going to get shoved to the side after three interactions with hotman supreme because after 1 kiss she decides they don't have any chemistry. JUSTICE

That being said I'm actually really enjoying following Violet, she's cool. Think one of my favorite characters is Sawyer though, I just think it's a sick character concept to have one of them be there after being unsuccessful for the first time, and still have him be nice, just also persistent. Rare and W character trait combo

Xadan is genuinely one of the most boring characters I've read, I roll my eyes every time he's on screen. He has absolutely zero characteristics outside of resident hot man

"because it's dain. Dain, whom I've known since we were five and six. Dain, whose father is one of my mother's most trusted advisers." dain, who is absolutely going to betray you at some point.

Good: Premise of a world based on physical merit and a chronically ill protagonist is interesting, and opens conversations about how we see and treat people with chronic illnesses in our own world. The novel seems to take itself seriously, and is here to tell about the story and the world, not just fulfill a self-insert fantasy. I think this authenticity could really shine, and I'm excited to see where it goes.

Continuing the bad: could have really done without the two paragraphs about how hot Xadan is, especially since he and Violet have such actual reason to hate each other, so there could have been a really interesting and authentic buildup of tension instead of the instalove.

First thoughts:
Bad: Xadan does not need to be so tall- in fact, it would work to his overall detriment, as his center of gravity would be so high in the sky - so the only reason for him being so tall is being a good book boyfriend. Violet's hair naturally fades to silver because of the pigment and I'm 100% sure hair doesn't naturally do that. It's also something I would have written at age 11.
