This book gets better and better, with new twists and turns every few pages. The brutality of this book is forgiven by the sweet tendencies that happen every so often, touch by one’s heart

The title of the book just because clear. Through all of the hardships and darkness in the world, there is something that unites us. I never have practiced any religion, but the point that this book makes, that god isn’t a thing, but rather everything, is a good way to look at life.

It is surprising, realizing how awful people would treat those of a different race than them. I knew racism was bad around the time this novel is based in, but the extent some people take it surprises me, and it makes me appreciate how far we have come and how far we still need to go.

The twisted relationships and the suspicions in this book are very well thought out, and especially entrancing. They really make you think and wonder about what is truly happening in this strange old world.

A twist in the story just unfolded, and it changes how I view Albert and Celies sister, Nettie. After all this time, the abandonment celie has felt was actually isolation under Alberts control, and that changes how I see Albert. Not only is he a rapist, but he is a liar, a thief, and also an abusive parent and father.

The book keeps getting better and better, but the more I read it, the more I realize how different the world was back then, and I can easily understand why some of my friends feel and act the way they do, not wanting to be out at night, not wanting to be alone, as they’re scared. With my height I never really had to worry about things like sexual assault but this shows how real the possibility is.

With his wife coming back, harpo, a newly made bartender, starts to give up on life. However, with help from shug and Celie, he remembers who his wife is, and finds meaning again. This is a good moral to tell in a book this dark and intense, reminding that there can be good in little things, even if it feels like you can’t go on anymore.

This book is really interesting for many reasons. One I just realized today while reading is that there is a purpose behind blocking out the husband’s last name. It is to show who the main character cares about, as only shug Avery gets a last name. I predict some foreshadowing because of this, and I assume Cellie has a crush on shug

Although the grammar and spelling is weird, it creates a perfect light into how women were treated at this time. Not very educated, oppressed, ignored, beat. It really sells the authenticity of the book. Also, the topics about eating disorders and women’s rights are being introduced and they are going to be big, main topics of the book, in my opinion.

The opening scenes are intense. I know that the author has to set the time and atmosphere for the story, but starting it off with a story of abuse, rape, and forced marriages is really intense. Because of this boldness, I want to finish this book quickly.

The snowstorm and the forced time between George and Lewis is an interesting situation. I had a similar one a few years ago, and the cabin fever sadly ruined our friendship. I wish that I had shared a similar experience to Lewis and George, but it was still a good experience, and I learned a lot of new things about myself and others.

The realization of what Lewis really lived like coming over George really hit me. I have 2 house that I go between, and one is super nice, and we keep it clean and tidy, so all my friends think that I have it easy. I had my friend come over to my other house, which is messy, falling apart, and small, and they had the same reaction. The guilt, pity that makes me sick. I understand how Lewis feels.

The book is getting intense as the secret about Lewis and Evan is getting out. Back in 5th grade, a similar situation happened between me and a friend, and this scene is making me sad, as it reminds me of the time is lost one of my closest friends over some dumb differences in philosophies.

The long time Lewis was out of school reminds me of my time in 8th grade when I missed time for personal stuff at home. The strangeness and anger of the other students is really accurate, especially how it makes Lewis feel. I know how it feels to be isolated, and Eric Gansworth does an expert job on conveying the feeling of loneliness.

The story is introducing some heavier racial ties. The relationship between George and Lewis gets more and more complicated as George’s relationship with Stacey gets more intense. This gap between their cultures gets more and more evident, and it is scaring Lewis away from George, which is the last thing he wants. This reminds me of my friendships, as they are difficult with people who dislike each other.

This is an incredible book so far. The use of standard writing structures (paragraphs) combined with the beautifully formatted and written stanzas are impeccable. The descriptions and word choices pull you into the characters' minds, making you feel and think like them without you realizing. you feel their pain, their issues. This is a wonderfully crafted book so far.

It is an amazing, fast read. The character development is impeccable, and the comedy and plot developement in the beginning was amazing, and transitions perfectly into the books darker, action filled, climax.

This is a funny, quick comic. I love seeing the author take the perspective of the villains, and making fun of the fact that a lot of stories follow "rules" that every villain and hero follow. I love the character Nimona, as she is a funny, ADHD minded kid like me.
