First impression: today is not the day for a BookTok-hyped creature feature… is there a word - Japanese ? or Scandinavian, perhaps? that describes the type of literary ennui one experiences when she has 20 holds available, but none of them promise to fill the hole inside of her that only books about women with holes inside them can fill? Le sigh…

I’m growing weary of Hauntings (already not my favorite Horror sub-genre) & a British narrator can bring an audiobook to life or bore me to death… not sure where I stand with this one yet, but I’m pausing & picking up something new - I need my unhinged (American) woman fix. We really take derangement to a whole other level 🤡

Why this is great on audiobook: Dream recollection #1“… I was on a date with a girl who was not my girlfriend. The girl ordered the soup du jour. She tried it, then she spat it out. She called the waiter over. ‘I dunno what kind of trick you’re trying to pull, but I’ve had soup du jour before & this ain’t it.’ ‘Nrraghhrr,” I said, flopping my whale flippers all over the table.”

Libby kindly offered me a courtesy one hour extension of my loan, as I was finishing the book, only to cut off 9 minutes later, & just as I was about to find out the identity of the ghost seen outside the author’s room at the Chateau Marmont! I imagine there are still a few more important insights in the remaining 4% of the book, so I’ll wait to comment further or write a review.

Despite being unmarried & childless, I adore & somehow deeply identify with Postpartum Apathy/Resentment/Loathing/Psychosis books - bonus points if the child is a murderous demon & mommy just looks insomniac & unhinged. Alas, no demon-baby here (so far) but Apathy/Resentment/Loathing in spades, & I can def relate to the injustice of not adapting to anything that takes my focus off of, well, me…

Just finished a Diet Horror Story & feel like I need something a bit more bitter-tasting book to follow it. Maybe the Book of X is it?

Started two other (exceedingly long) books, & the shorter of the two is new & the internet tells me it’s been *highly anticipated* & couldn’t appear more spot-on “horror feat. female oppression” but after just finishing another book w/ a teen girl as the protagonist & writing that was way too easy to digest, I decided I needed

Enjoying this 27-HR audiobook, despite the mild-moderate resistance of my nonexistent attention span. I have several library cards expiring soon & want to borrow as many holds w/them as I can, so I’ve read a few books since starting this, & Libby, since you asked, the true test of “How’s the book?” is how I feel when the book is returned before I’ve finished & im waiting for it to become available again.
