A fascinating story of a young man who has the job of driving truck which carries two giraffes who had been in a ship across the Atlantic and who are now riding in a truck carrying a large structure carrying 2 giraffes and are being transported to the San Diego Zoo. There are lots of adventures and the on the way.

Challenging and sometimes makes me very angry. I am looking forward to the end.

Started this book a month ago. I was fascinated about the stories about the women that stepped up to work in factories building ships, planes , weapons, while the men were fighting overseas. Others were the people who flew the newly launched planes to the places they were needed. Others nursed the men who were injured after battle, and so on. Rosie the Riveter and Wendy the Welder have fascinated me.

This book was chosen by our reading group. I struggled with it because of the topic. The young daughter of a wealthy family has epilepsy and the treatments were brutal. In addition this was the era that was beginning to accept the concept of euthanasia for children so that they are not a burden for society.

Being read by my 9th-grade granddaughter in school so I decided to read it also.
