Kellie is starting Chasing Darkness (Elvis Cole, #12)
“The Devil’s Wind fright trains down from the desert. Though dry and brutally harsh, the desert wind is clean. it pushes the smog south to the sea and scrubs the sky to a crystalline blue. The air, jittery from the heat, rises in swaying tendrils like kelp from the seabed, making the city shimmer. We are never more beautiful than when we are burning.

I have to save this for my mother....For those of us enamored of the world of textiles, the sound of scissors is a little symphony. It conjures an image of a head bent over a machine, the feel of fabric slipping through fingers, a small light focused on a field of intimate labor.

Awesome suspenseful book. Great quotes on page 322 “Never forgive, never forget. Plans go to heal as soon as the first shot is fired. Protect and serve. Never off duty. You’re as hard on yourself as you are on others. Cruel but fair.”

So far, the writing is spicy. “A herd of mouth-breathing fucktard yokels who wade around in a miasma of cliche so thick you can practically smell the bacon and cabbage and cow shite and altar candles.”

Woah. Chapter 15. Not sure an editor would have let this fly now a days….I think it was gutsy. Good job Parker. RIP

First of all. I haven’t even started but I love the cast of character list at the beginning.

Another quote from this book that has meaning to me…”Deep down to the army a wounded soldier that can’t fight anymore is garbage. So we depend on civilians, and civilians don’t care either.

Typical Reacher…He has nothing better to do so he bull dogs his way into a town called Despair to figure out their secrets. I’m wondering if Lee Child is a coffee connoisseur. He not only describes the taste of the coffee, but the coffee cup as well. Fascinating!!

Very unique book. Simple thoughts ramble on and on...I sometimes lose patience with this type of writing but I’m hanging in there with this one. It’s so odd I’m curious and keep reading it. One of the things that do bother me is Laura Brown is pregnant and she smokes! It is 1949 and things were very different then, but I cringe every time she picks up a cigarette knowing she is pregnant.

I thought I would take a break from all of the murder mystery series I’ve been reading and try this. I read the Prologue and it seems interesting enough. If any of you have thoughts/comments about this book, feel free...thank you

This book came off a library hold so I did a little switcheroo with the Robert B Parker book I originally had slated to read next....

Normally, I don’t comment about a book until the end. This book is annoying the crap out of me. The word that comes to mind is “babble”. There are too many words. The author continually goes off an tangents that have nothing to do with the plot. I am driven to finish this and I will but unless there is an incredible turn around by the time I get to the end, the rating on this is going to be low.

SPOILER ALERT....I literally had to stop and laugh when Lev told the story about his father being killed for grazing on someone’s land and Bea was the 19 year old princess who watched as cold as ice. And Bea’s son married Lev’s daughter. Sweet revenge.....
