Not what I expected. A pen name, of course, Brand was a prolific writer, and this volume of stories offers an interesting variety of tales that are not of the typical "gunslinger" variety. Humorous, insightful, even moving, it has been a great sampler that will have me looking for more titles in the future.

I picked this up to read "The Age of Reason" and the wit and wisdom of Paine is timeless. Too bad the Christian Nationalists don't take time to read this "Founding Father" of our country.

I am using this as a background for myself for leading my Percy Jackson novel study with my 6th grade students. It was my high school mythology textbook in the mid-80s. Probably my Dad's in the mid-60s and maybe my kids in the 2010s?

I really liked the first half; it was working, and I whistled through it. Now that we're down the rabbit hole and into Oz, it's a poison apple. I've checked the reviews, and this one is going to have to sleep a while before I cross that bridge again to see if it is a golden egg after all. For now, it's time to let down my hair and read something else.

Happy to find this reprint of a childhood favorite. My copy, ironically, had been damaged by a dog.

Happy to have found a reprint of this old favorite from my youth. The copy I previously had was, ironically, damaged by a dog.
