Slow going, fascinating, HEAVILY drawing from citations of original source 1600s and 1700s documents from the British mainland and Caribbean colonies. The picture being painted is rife with evidence of strains in ideology and competing interests. That an emerging merchant capitalist class was not interested in towing the line with state (or colonist survival) interests is novel if unsurprising.
