I think I am going to return this book. Typically I always read the book first before seeing any movie about it. However, this is just too much and I already prefer the movie. It just starts off with too much, whereas the movie plot made the whole story line more complex and interesting since the main character was a competent journalist.

I am struggling with this book and not sure why. I’ve read two of his other books and loved them.. forging ahead in hopes of turning the corner.

So far, I have found this book brilliant!! There is a huge difference in reading a book and reading a well written book. This is possibly my second book by John Irving and I so enjoy his writing style.

Dksatch is starting Lucky Loser: How Donald Trump Squandered His Father's Fortune and Created the Illusion of Success
This is a fascinating and horrifying book about Trump. Sadly, all the MAGAs would never read it to understand who he really is. A Con Man and fraud. It does give some incredible insight to how he thinks, by his actions. He’s has dilutions of grandeur on who he is. Quite frankly, I’m convinced he has a personality disorder and shockingly is President AGAIN… How??

I have found this book fascinating so far and nothing like I’ve ever read. I am so bored if I can predict what will happen next and have found this read thoroughly entertaining.

Colm Toibin has such a magical way of writing. Has captivated me again.

My family had all seen the movie “Brooklyn” and had recommended it, but I prefer to read the book first (otherwise I am influenced by the movie characters and script). This said, I LOVED Brooklyn and found out at the end of the book, there would be a sequel. I also saw the author in Menlo Park for his book reading in May. TWO thumps up!

This is some respects is an ordinary story but I have loved it. Not full of twists, turns nor surprises but I have been captivated by the story and the writing style.

I am struggling with this book. I have almost quit a number of times. It feels like (to me) a thin plot with characters you really can’t figure out or get to know. I selected this book because I’ve had an intrigue of the Island due to being from the Bay Area.

Dksatch is on page 35 of 304 of The Year of Living Danishly: Uncovering the Secrets of the World's Happiest Country
I love the subject having been to Denmark 3 times. My husband lived there and we have many Danish friends. This said, the writing style I find tedious. There seems to be a need to be rather glib and a forced cheeky. My brother kindly bought me this book but I may have to skim to get through it!

My great grandmother and her family of 6 (one a new born) survived the earthquake in downtown. I was fascinated by her talking about it, sitting on the end of her bed. I chose this book to learn a bit more of the historical background of what was going on in SF when the quake happened.

So far, I have enjoyed it. My entire extended multi-generational family is from the Bay Area so this is interesting to me.

I might not finish this book. I find it tedious and uninteresting. I don’t want to give anything away since other readers have rated it fairly well but I just cannot get into this plot even though it encompasses wine and a European location - two things I would enjoy in real life.

I am struggling with this book. I loved Pride and Prejudice but this one is just too wordy and I am having a hard time with it, I just want to say “get to the point”. Can’t wait until I’m done.

Very interesting read. I have really enjoying this book. As an adult, I love history and the interesting stories that might not be the huge parts of the past that we know.

I have to say this book is boring me to tears. I liked the first one enough to start reading this second one but it feels so contrived. There are assumptions made that the relationship was so much more than it was and the added characters are completely annoying. I have considered just closing the book but I figure I’ll just finish it and see where it goes - to the end.

I LOVE this authors language. Every so often you read or hear someone who’s use of language is magical. This is the case with this book. I have highlighted so many sentences because I’m in awe of the structure and how they have formulate their thoughts. Love it.
