You are always without time, with too much work, regardless of how much time or how little work you actually have. It's because you struggle with purpose, baby. You do things because you have to, but that's the only reason. If you didn't need to do things, you wouldn't bother doing anything at all. What kind of life is that? A life without meaning?

Best Strout I’ve read so far.

It's a cliche to have characters forget that their mother has died, to have them try to give her a call years after the fact, but in my experience it's much more common to forget that someone we know, or used to know, is alive and breathing somewhere.

“Self-discovery, … What a joke. Life’s too short to find out who we really are.”

Our only obligation to each other should be a vast, oceanic affection. Our only assumption must be that everybody’s life is more meaningful and than our own. They id the only way to encounter the other. The rest is window dressing.

I wish to be alive, to continue to live, even should that mean a state of constant deferral. How much do you want to appear in other people’s thoughts at all? As little as possible, I think. If I could, I would take everything I have ever thought about anyone else and delete it forever.

bit of an iffy start. there’s this weird thing with the dialogue I am still adjusting to. but the premise is promising - I want to like it.

finishing with this feeling rising all in a rush inside my chest

MESSY

things are getting oooooh messy but I’m sure it will resolve itself semi-wholesomely ……. Right??
