The two boring chapters of clan history were followed by two boring chapters of petty clan warfare, making sure to give the battle plans, terrain types, and tactics in excruciating detail. Then finally we get back to the lively characters I was enjoying in chapter one.

I don't think I'm going to end up liking this one.

The interesting characters and events that I was getting into were suddenly interrupted by two chapters worth of boring historical lists of the characters' ancestors, details of a clan war, far too many names of inconsequential bit characters, and some unnecessary world-building.

I've heard high praise of this author. Don't let me down, Mr Vance!

One of the most abrupt and unresolved endings I've ever experienced outside of Neal Stephenson!

This is a really good book. A strong start for the year!

So far, every time I've read something that was said to have influenced Roger Zelazny's Chronicles of Amber, it seems Zelazny did it much better. This is rather slow and meandering.

This is a really good and engaging book so far. Great characters and situations!

Still another 173 pages of this boring tripe. This is penance for something.

And so now, at this point in the story, I finally see why this series is called the World of Tiers.

I don't know why some authors can't just stick with plain chapters. Here, we get Part 1>Chapter 1>Sub-chapter 1.
