Cat is on page 567 of 983 of The Beatles: The Biography
The first 300 pages covering their family histories and boyhood years, and description of Liverpool in the 40's-50's is very good, the background to what they would become as men and pop icons.

Cat is 60% done with Frankenstein
The most compelling portion of the book, so far, is the creature's narration of his own story. I'm finding Victor Frankenstein to be a spoiled, pompous brat who creates something and then abandons his responsibility toward it, and toward his community if the creature had come to life as a murderous monster. In terms of writing style, a lot of the book is a slog for me to get through.

Nearing the end of Gabriel Betteredge's narrative. The pace is picking up a little, not that the book was slow and dull before. A neat read of one of the first detective novels. :)

Just Started. So much more humor than I remember when I tried reading this long long ago. Like the character of Betteredge, the old family retainer, and his daughter, Penelope. Am reading some PD domain Kindle edition downloaded from Amazon.

Cat is 32% done with The Suspicions of Mr. Whicher: A Shocking Murder and the Undoing of a Great Victorian Detective
This is 3 books in 1, and maybe 4. There's a murder mystery, a history of the detective novel, a history of the London police force and development of detecting techniques and a running etymology of police slang. She should have left out book 4 at least.

Kaminsky populates the book with Erroll Flynn, Peter Lorre, Edward G. Robinson and loads of other actors and directors are mentioned in passing. It's almost ad placement or something. I'm not sure how much I like it, but its an incredibly fast read.

I expected a coffee table book of photographs, and most of the book are photos, but the text is very good and there are events in this book that aren't included in Bill Nack's book on Secretariat.

Cat is on page 165 of 348 of Ruffian: Burning From the Start
Schwartz shifts from present to past in this book about Ruffian's racing history and the match race with Foolish Pleasure. When you know what happened at the match race, the chapters dealing with the past can be poignant and painful.

Cat is on page 431 of 896 of Khrushchev: The Man and His Era
Up to the late 1950's now, the Geneva Summit, Nixon's visit to Moscow, Khruschev's visit to the US. Looming ahead is the 1961 Berlin Crisis. Khruschev was better than Stalin, but it's still a country run by the Mafia, and Khruschev wasn't the brightest Don in the ceiling.
