I don’t remember exactly what made this so boring the first time I tried to read this, but I’m listening to the audiobook now and enjoying it much more this time around

This really just feels like a white human power trip novel that is describing how certain dog owners think/wish their own dog thinks… like not all of it is wrong maybe, but there’s enough weird vibes in the dog/man relationship alone that’s enough to fully put me off (aside, even, from the racism)

“He had committed what was to him sacrilege, sunk his fangs in the holy flesh of a god, and of a white-skinned superior god at that.” The only reason I’m finishing this book is because I’m listening to it on 2x speed.

Was already grappling with the tone in which White Fang conceptualizes humans as gods, but throw in this BLATANT white supremacist monologue?? You’re trying to “get in the mind of an animal” why on earth is this even a factor? This wolf can differentiate that some dogs he’s never encountered before are different breeds, but in literally the same breath varying skin tones make humans entirely distinct species?

I don’t remember the last time it took me just over an hour to read less than 25 pages. This book is a trip.
