I’d forgotten how much I enjoy this series! Except for Mike 🤢 The 90’s produced some weird male romantic leads.

I’ve already listed to about 35 hours of various narrators for this public domain recording. The last half of the book has been the same narrator, and, although I appreciate and admire his persistence, his accent is difficult to understand when combined with the classical 18th-19th century English writing style. Lots of audio skimming to finally finish the story.

Perplex is ALREADY a verb, you fictional goons. It’s most definitely not like converting Google to a verb.

This initial plot reveal feels both predictable and so incredibly nonsensical. It doesn’t help that this book is apparently #12 in a cozy series and I have almost no background info on who they are. Nell is okay. Cass is still annoying, as is Sam when he pops up on page.

Cass is so unpleasant to read. I think she’s supposed to come across as independent and modern, but instead she seems bullheaded and overly self-contradictory, especially where feelings come up. I guess that’s par for the course in the mid 2010s when so many young women were encouraged to rebrand themselves as GIRLBOSS.
