Clint’s advice to Terry. “Do yourself a favor and pour the rest of the liquor onto the ground. Frank here thinks he’s the solution n, but I think he’s the problem. I think she knew there’d be a guy like him. I think she knows there always is.” I like when the characters actually say what they should say in the story and what the reader is thinking they should. It makes me not think the author is stringing us along.

I’m not a big fan of foreshadowing and telling us things that already happened in a book early. Knowing Linny died in a fire already bugs me and saying it was a mistake that Van revved her ATV because she hadn’t checked her tank before setting out annoys me. Now I’m just waiting to hear how it all went down with Linny and wondering how the lack of gas in Vans tank plays into it.

So Clint is supposed to protect her life, now she’s taunting Frank to kill her. I’m confused. But I guess it answers my question as to why she doesn’t just tell Frank she can save his daughter if he lets her live. She has some other plan playing both men now. Who is she telling the truth to? Does she need to be saved or killed for the women to live?

Eve is taunting Frank. “I want you to man the fuck up and make this interesting!” Tells him she wants his daughter to say her dad is the man who stopped that wicked old fairy who put all the women to sleep. Frank says to let the women go, and she says you’ll have to kill me first.

A world restarted by women had a chance to be safer and fairer...and yet Lila couldn’t say an existence without her son was better. She could conceptualize the idea but she couldn’t articulate it without feeling like a traitor to both Jared and her old life.

I keep thinking why doesn’t Clint just tell Frank that if he kills Eve then his daughter will die. If all Frank wants to do is protect his daughter, then wouldn’t he change his mind? Seems simple to me. I haven’t heard an explanation as to why this wouldn’t just solve the problem. Must be to keep the story going?

“Our place” is a bit apocalyptic. Living off the land...love it!

Newborn baby...he just cried and cried. She imagined that he hadn’t actually known what he wanted, but hoped maybe his mother might fix it for him. That was the hurtful part of motherhood, not being able to fix what you couldn’t understand.
