An engrossing read for me. As usual the most interesting parts here are those I know least about, mainly Soviet thinking on interventions in Angola, Ethiopia, and the Soviet decision to invade Afghanistan. I did think the triumph of monetarism in the late 70s-early 80s was given short shrift. Conclusions at the end were less convincing but acceptable.
