I notice some patterns in Stevens’ writing. He likes to use lots of metaphors, stating that one thing is another (where both things are objects), so I guess rather one object is another, like a substitute. Also he uses lots of “not’s”, such that one thing is not that thing, that is he means not that thing

“A rabbit as king of the ghosts” is ok

“The Man on the Dump”, certainly describes his writing.
