The author brought all the characters in the book together at the end for a very good ending.

The battle has turned on the Germans. They no longer have the upper hand on the Russians and are being beaten back. Now they are the ones struggling to survive and their deaths seem imminent.

Conrad is busy dealing with squads of Russian soldiers in the Soviet farmlands. Vasily's train was just bombed and him and his platoon will need to walk the rest of the way.

I really enjoyed this book. It showed two different points of view under Nazi rule. Helen's story started off very bad and Alfons' started off very good. By the end of the book their situations were swapped.

Helen and Alfons met in San Diego and decided to speak in front of audiences about their experiences during WWII.

Helen was able to make it home to Holland, but along the way she still faced many challenges for being Jewish and for being a Jew.

Alfons was promoted to a leader within the Hitler Youth. He is in charge of nearly 3,000 boys.

Alfons was invited to join the flight school for the Hitler Youth.

You can clearly see how Alfons is being brainwashed by Adolf Hitler like many other German citizens.

Ned Stark went to meet a weapon smith to find out why Lord Jon Arryn had visited there before his death. He found that one of King Robert's bastard children worked there and now has to figure out what Lord Arryn wanted with him.

Daenarys has become pregnant with Khal Drogo's child.

The Starks have become divided. Ned rides South with Sansa and Arya to become hand of the king. Jon rides North to the wall. Catelyn, Robb, Bran and Rickon remain in Winterfell.
