Chapter 3 - A moulted cicada shell. Never before has Genji been rejected by such a woman. Genji seeks her out again. Under the cover of night, Genji mistakenly slips into the wrong room and the wrong woman. Genji and the woman who has rejected him exchange poems on the subject of a fisherman’s robe. 👘

“He died without regaining consciousness at 9.42 p.m. on the evening of 5 August 1858, and the doctor officially recorded the cause of death as melaena (a stomach ulcer) and serious apoplexy (a stroke). He was forty-eight years old.”

He packed a lot into those 48 years.

This was a sad sentence to read… I admit I wasn’t ready for it…

Chapter 2 (part 2) - The next morning Genji departs the castle, but due to a “directional taboo” he is “prevented” from traveling to his wife. He, therefore, stops in at a local governor’s castle where he knows there is a “Mid Level” woman of the court (as discussed in the earlier part of this chapter). He woos and wins this woman with his incredible beauty. He departs early the next morning.

Chapter 1 - The birth of Genji. Genji’s mother and father. Why a Genji is removed from the line of succession. The death of Genji’s mother.

Chapter 2 - The boys discuss women. Focusing on the women you love and the women you marry and how the two usually aren’t the same women.

OK… there is a SECOND reference to drinking horse feces mixed with water to heal a wound received from a horse. WTH?! 🤦‍♂️

Is he playing a prank? Just having a laugh to see who will take this advice???

This little box has a very Anti-Nazi take so far… I am totally cool with that. As Indiana Jones said, “Nazi’s… I hate these guys.”
