I mean, wow. The first book is just unbelievably beautiful, and so, so symbolic. I am blown away by the storytelling. So far: 11/5 stars.

One chapter in and I am hooked. The writing is just so beautiful, especially directly after the awkward and stumbling style of Marie Brennan.

How to tell when an author is writing in a style that is in fact slightly beyond their command of the English language (and apparently that of their editor): '…which my readers—most of who, I imagine, enjoy…'

Oof.

Enjoying the book, but struggling with the writing that is a modest if inelegant attempt at beautiful language and sophistication, and at simple and comprehensible language for a young modern audience.
