"James II was the first Catholic monarch in England since Mary, Queen of Scots." That would be a neat fact if it were true. Either he was the first Catholic monarch in England since Mary I (Tudor), or the first in Britain since Mary, Queen of Scots (Stuart), since Stuart was never Queen of England, just of... the Scots. Her son, James of the Dual Numbers, was the first Stuart on the English throne.
