Oof, my former discipline called out in a short story from 1981. That's gonna hurt.

Pretty solid 3 so far, but good enough to keep reading.

It's always so funny to move onto a normal-sized book after a Stormlight Archive. Like what do you mean I'm already a third of the way done with this one? 😂

Five stories in (out of six), and so far we've had two ghosts, one faked Scooby-Doo style pretend haunting, and two cases where someone was faking a haunting AND there was also coincidentally a real ghost on the scene.

Slow as usual, but I do think I'll be able to finish this before the holidays. Possibly even by the end of this week; we'll see.

Why are we firing guns at the ghost horse, exactly? What do we think that will accomplish?

This might be a DNF... It's all just bouncing off me so far. It would be one thing if these stories were linked somehow, like in North Woods, but these discrete vignettes aren't doing it for me.

Liking the characters, but severely unimpressed with the Jewish representation so far, which amounts to just occasionally mentioning holidays by name in passing, like "She hadn't seen him since last Passover." That's happened at least three times now, and otherwise the family being Jewish hasn't come up at all.

One chapter in and I'm already in love with this disaster bisexual.

This is a lot of drama over a maximum 1-year prison sentence.

Ugh. Seriously?

I hate that this character's cause of death being a suicide is being treated like a big twist reveal.

This started off nicely, but it's gonna be a 3 from me in the end, I think.

This is fine, but the werewolves/werebear reveal is being dragged out for way too long. It's super obvious to the reader, so why is the heroine still being kept in the dark?

So bored I just upped the audiobook speed from my usual 2.5x to 3x

I super do not care about this love interest (the titular woodsman, I guess)

Audiobook reader must not be a local; they just pronounced McLean like it rhymes with green, not grain.

Really wish there was some sort of plot or goal in this one that the characters were explicitly working towards. It's mostly just hangout vibes so far.
