Finished Henry V. What a marvelous play it is! Next up is The Two Gentlemen of Verona.

Finished Henry IV, Part Two. Now I only have Henry V, my favorite history play, to listen to as the final play of the second tetralogy. Then I'll listen to The Two Gentlemen of Verona and get caught up on my backlog.

Listened to Henry IV, Part One. Another brilliant play. Last year, I found myself warming up to this play and its sequel, and now on this reread—and re-listen—I'm ready to accept it as being as brilliant as everybody thinks it is (including the professor who taught my Shakespeare class and made sure that this was the one play we got in a Norton Critical Edition rather than the cheaper Dover Thrift Editions).

Finished Richard II. It's such a marvelous play. My second-favorite Shakespeare history after Henry V.

Up to The Revenger's Tragedy by Thomas Middleton. The Atheist's Tragedy had some good dialogue but some absolutely bonkers stage action. But that kind of over-the-top stuff is one reason why I love this era of drama. I loved the implication about the fairness of a trial in having the scaffold erected before the judgment was given.

Finished The Duchess of Malfi by John Webster, which is an undeniable masterpiece. It's my favorite play of the early modern era not written by Shakespeare. Next up is The Atheist's Tragedy; or, The Honest Man's Revenge by Cyril Tourneur.

Finished The White Devil by John Webster. Now up to Webster's The Duchess of Malfi, my favorite non-Shakespearean play of the early modern era.

I skipped Dryden's All For Love, which I don't want to read until after reading Shakespeare's Antony and Cleopatra of which Dryden's play is an adaptation, and read The School for Scandal by Richard Brinsley Sheridan. The reformed prodigal was just as popular in Shakespeare's day as it was almost two hundred years later.

Up to "Rumpole and the Angel of Death", the final story in the collection and the last in the book.
