I have to power through this book and toss it onto the shelf. The last chapter is boring me silly. Pinker has decided to explain musical notes and scales in terms of their inter-relationships and how the arts present needless use of resources and a reflection of our vain expressions of wealth. Where is the grand conclusion or over arching summary???

This is my third time starting this novel. I can't see the direction of the plot or understand why this is hailed as a great book. I want the magic to be real but don't see any evidence so far.
