Round third base, finally, and Céline is continuing to wax philosophical.

Two weeks of reading and I'm only at page 300. It's not so much that the prose is dense; it's just that this constant morose, pessimistic, nihilistic banter is tough to read through for more than an hour at a time. Great book, thought, with many great quotables.

The introduction is superb, giving valuable background information around this point in the philosopher's life. His break with Wagner, and his launch into conventional philosophical topics (as opposed to the historical philology in "The Birth of Tragedy"). Already, having read only about 60 of the aphorisms, I can see the precursors to his idea of the superman.
