This is as good as the first one "Pillars of the Earth" but it takes 100 pages or so to pick up steam. It takes place 200 years later, in the 1300s, and it is basically a Medieval soap opera. You care so much for the good characters, and hate the bad characters. Ken Follett is an amazing writer - although he does get rather explicit at times. The 3rd book in the series just came out (it takes place in the 1500s).
