While reading the hair stylist article I came across a quote that stated, "Your'e a cop...If you didn't have a gun, how much authority would you pull around here? Anybody can do your job. You can't do mine. It takes skills." This passage really stood out to me because I have been researching a career in law enforcement. The hair stylists opinion made me wonder if officers have a 'job' and not a 'career' .

While Libby's family seems to be broken by her son's addiction, she wants to portray a different image. I found this interesting while having mixed feelings about it. I understand she wants to keep it in the family but I began to get a bit agitated by the fact that she didn't do anything to get Jeff help, emotionally or physically. I felt empathetic towards her but I wished she had done more to show her effort.

"My stomach dipped like it does when you stare into the pool from the high dive before diving." This is a logical simile. Leslie explains how Conor would make her feel. She uses "...stare into the pool from the high dive before diving" instead of using something like "butterflies in my stomach" to show how it was a bad type of nervous instead of good nervous.

"Mom wore a heavy cable-knit sweater, The skin of her hands was deeply cracked, and her hair was tangled...Dad looked gaunt...but his cheeks were sunken" This piece of imagery highlights the way Rose and Rex are living and their overall situation. It shows how they have endured a lot and it brings out the sadness and frustration that Jeannette has when seeing her parents like this.

"I'm not upset because I'll miss you ' Mom said. 'I'm upset because you get to go to New York and I'm stuck here. It's not fair."
This helps reveal and expand on the type of person and more importantly the mother Rose is. Instead of being happy for her children that they get to move on from the hard life they've lived so far, she is upset that she does not get to move on as well.
